  • TL;DR: Coperni 3D printed a bendy Ariel Swipe Bag at Disneyland Paris, and I need it to be part of my world.

  • So what? The collaboration shows how technology and fashion are pushing the boundaries of sustainability and design, making it relevant for tech and eco conscious consumers.

French fashion house Coperni showcased its new Ariel Swipe Bag at their Spring/Summer 2025 show at Disneyland Paris, blending fashion, technology, and sustainability.

Produced using MIT's innovative Rapid Liquid Printing (RLP) technology, the bag is made from recyclable silicone and shaped inside a water-based gel. The result? A soft, flexible accessory that pays homage to both Disney’s The Little Mermaid—and Walt Disney’s boundless imagination itself.

What is Rapid Liquid Printing?

Unlike traditional 3D printing, which constructs objects layer by layer, RLP “draws” designs suspended in gel. This process not only allows for more intricate shapes but also eliminates the need for post-processing, delivering a finished product straight from the tank.

Co-founder Arnaud Vaillant praised the collaboration with MIT's Self-Assembly Lab: “It’s like bringing something to life in a tank, with no limits to scale other than the size of the container.” The Ariel Swipe Bag, colored in Ariel’s iconic blue, is part of Coperni’s ongoing mission to integrate innovation into fashion, with sustainability at the forefront.

Technology and Sustainability Meet in Fashion

This isn’t the first time Coperni has explored futuristic materials or technology as part of their runways or designs.

Last year, the brand introduced the NASA-inspired aerogel Swipe Bag made of 99% air, partnered with Humane to unveil the ex-Apple exec’s Ai Pin at their SS24 show, and have previously collaborated with robotics company Boston Dynamics for viral runways.

With the Ariel Swipe Bag they continue to push the envelope, using innovative technology, recyclable silicone and non-toxic materials to reduce environmental impact.

“By embracing technology like RLP, we’re enhancing fashion in ways that feel natural and sustainable,” said Sébastien Meyer, co-founder of Coperni. The bag embodies a forward-thinking approach to fashion that balances aesthetics with practicality.

As fashion embraces technology, innovations like 3D printing are redefining how clothes and accessories are designed and manufactured. With the Ariel Swipe Bag, Coperni is once again showing that the future of fashion lies at the intersection of creativity, and cutting-edge tech.
