TL;DR: Consumer tech company Humane introduce the AI Pin, a revolutionary clothing-based wearable device.
So what? Dust off your lapels and shirt pockets, Humane’s disappearing computer is about to enhance how we experience the world around us, using AI in a whole new way.
In a world where screens seem to increasingly dominate our attention and the spaces around us, consumer tech company Humane is rewriting the script with a groundbreaking new device—the Humane AI Pin. Designed to break down the barriers between technology and the tactile world we inhabit, the Humane AI Pin is more than just another gadget; it could be a glimpse into a new future of human connectedness with each other and the world around us.
What is the new Humane AI pin?
The Humane Ai Pin is technology startup Humane's debut device that blends next-gen AI technology with everyday personal computing. "Our AI Pin presents an opportunity for people to take AI with them everywhere and to unlock a new era of personal mobile computing which is seamless, screenless and sensing," said Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, co-founders of Humane.
How does Humane’s wearable AI device work?
The device uses sensors to engage in interactions around you as you wear it. It offers a clothing-based wearable experience—yes, you read that right, clothing-based—that promises to blend seamlessly into the fabric of your daily life. This extraordinary new form of computing was recently showcased in Imran Chaudhri’s TED Talk, "The disappearing computer — and a world where you can take AI everywhere".
During the TED talk, Chaudhri demonstrated some of the wearable AI Pin’s functionality including taking a call from his wife and co-founder Bethany using the palm of his hand as an interface, and having the Humane AI Pin check the nutritional value of a chocolate bar based on Chaudhri’s health history (spoiler: the nutritional value wasn’t great, but Chaudhri said he was going to eat it regardless. Who says the robots are going to take over anyway?)

Who founded the tech company Humane?
Humane was co-founded by Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno who both worked at Apple and met while designing the iPad.
Chaudhri started out as an intern at Apple in1995 and went on to work there for over 20 years. While he was at Apple, Chaudhri contributed to the design of products like the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. He is credited as an inventor on numerous patents including an Apple touch screen, and was part of a close knit design team who invented the first iPhone interface and many of its interactions.
Bethany Bongiorno, Chaudhri’s co-founder and wife has a diverse background in physics, research, and software development, and served as a Director of Software Engineering at Apple. There, she managed software projects for iOS and macOS, including the original iPad launch. Together at Humane, Chaudhri and Bongiorno aim to integrate technology with a genuine human connection through forward-thinking, practical designs.

Where can I get the Humane AI Pin?
While details about the device are still under wraps, Humane has already set up a waitlist on its website for those eager to get their hands on this revolutionary piece of technology. The full reveal of the Humane AI Pin is scheduled for later this year, on October 14—the same day as the solar eclipse—and anticipation is running high.
In a recent Discord video Chaudhri said “an eclipse is an important symbol for us. It’s a new beginning spiritually, that’s what it means. It’s something that the whole world notices and comes together. We are certainly looking forward to being able to have a special moment on that day.”
“We can’t wait—all of us—to be able to walk down the street and see people using what we’ve built,” Bongiorno added in Discord.

Can I buy stock in the company Humane?
Early investors in Humane include OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Kindred Ventures. According to investing website Deal Room, Humane raised a USD$30million Series A funding round in 2019, a $100million Series B round in 2021, and a USD$100million Series C in March of 2023 which saw the likes of Microsoft, Salesforce Ventures and LG Technology Ventures join the investor pool.
While every day investors can’t buy into the company just yet, as Humane scales it’s operations the opportunities for every day investors to share in the value the company creates may increase too.
Who else worked on the AI Pin?
Along with Humane’s team which includes former Apple, Amazon, Lyft and NVIDIA talent, Humane has partnered with Qualcomm Technologies to introduce the Humane Ai Pin.
Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies says, “We share Humane’s vision of bringing AI with you everywhere and delivering on-device AI to everyone. We cannot wait to see where they take this device."
Humane's vision is not merely technological; it's a globally resonant ambition that sees AI as an enabler of our shared future. By acknowledging the sensory and embodied aspects of human experience the AI Pin promises to pave the way for a new chapter in computing that is human-centric, intuitive, and accessible to everyone.
According to Chaudhri the innovation is about “the possibility of reimagining the human technology relationship as we know it,” with technology that “helps you get back into the world” and “enhances your ability to do so.” For technology enthusiasts and casual users alike, the Humane Ai Pin is not just a product to watch—it's a harbinger of a future that's already unfolding, with a more organic form of personal computing, one that's as natural as putting on a jacket, as intuitive as breathing.
As Chaudhri said at TED, the future of technology “will not be held in your hands and it won’t be on your face either. The future of technology might almost be invisible.”
