Marriott International Launches Tech Accelerator in Hyderabad
TL;DR: Marriott International is launching a global tech hub in India to enhance its digital infrastructure.
So what? The move positions Marriott as a frontrunner in an industry that's increasingly reliant on cutting-edge technology to optimise guest experiences and backend operations.
Marriott International, the hotel giant behind the W, Moxy, Ritz-Carlton and more will open its first ever global capability centre—the Marriott Tech Accelerator—in 2025 in Hyderabad, Telangana.
The centre is set to boost the hotel conglomerate’s tech infrastructure by leveraging Hyderabad’s pool of IT professionals. It will focus on digital engineering, security, and next-gen tech solutions for Marriott’s global operations across 9,000 properties.
"This investment into Hyderabad represents our commitment to digital innovation," said Drew Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue & Technology Officer at Marriott International. “We have chosen Hyderabad for its world-class talent and strong reputation as a major IT hub.”
Tech-driven expansion in Telangana
Marriott’s accelerator joins over 200 global capability centres in the region. Shri Duddila Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s Minister of Information Technology, said the region’s growing appeal to global enterprises is a result of the scale of talent in the region.
“Our talent pool includes over 1 million global capability centre-ready professionals, with 350,000 AI and chip designers and an annual influx of 250,000 engineers. The Marriott Tech Accelerator strengthens our vision of making Telangana a global hub for AI, data science, and IIoT.”
Marriott’s move is part of a larger trend in the hospitality sector, where digital transformation has become key to staying competitive. From automated booking platforms to AI-driven guest personalisation and IoT-powered rooms, the role of tech in hospitality continues evolve.
Celebrating 25 Years of Marriott in India
The establishment of the Marriott Tech Accelerator is also a major milestone in Marriott’s 25-year journey in India. Since launching the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa in 1999, the company has grown to manage 150 hotels across the country, with plans to significantly increase that number.
“We are tremendously proud of our 25 years of doing business in India,” said Ranju Alex, Area Vice President for South Asia at Marriott International. “As we celebrate this milestone, we are committed to continued growth in India, with over 80 properties in the development pipeline.”
Marriott’s expansion plans will see its Indian room count soar from 29,000 to over 42,000 in the coming years, as it seeks to tap into the country’s fast-growing travel market. The accelerator will play a vital role in supporting the technology needs of these expanding operations.
The Future of Hospitality Innovation
Marriott’s investment in the Hyderabad accelerator is another step forward in its broader digital strategy, which has already seen the hospitality giant push boundaries in virtual and tech-enabled experiences.
Last year, Marriott made headlines with the launch of Marriott Bonvoy Land in Fortnite, becoming the first major hotel brand to create a presence in the popular online game. By blending the real and virtual worlds, Marriott has shown a commitment to reaching younger, tech-savvy consumers through innovative platforms.
As hotels increasingly blend luxury with high-tech solutions—think AI concierge services, voice-activated room controls, and cybersecurity infrastructure—the Marriott Tech Accelerator will be at the forefront of bringing innovation to life through guest experiences.
